Virginia Quarterly Review recently re-opened for submissions on June 15 and will stay open only until July 12. Founded in 1925, VQR has been publishing fiction, poetry, and essays with “one simple standard in its selection of writers: excellence.”

The editors say, “While we have a long history of publishing accomplished and award-winning authors, we also seek and support emerging writers. A look at one of our latest issues will show you the diversity of the voices we publish.”

Virginia Quarterly Review uses, like many publications (including last week’s spotlight: Black Warrior Review), a Submittable page. Poets can send up to four poems of any length or style. Previously published work is not accepted, but simultaneous submissions are welcome.

Poets who are published are paid $200 per poem, up to four poems. For poems longer than 50 lines, the payment is usually higher.
