Agents Renew Call For Diverse Books and #OwnVoices Submissions

As November 2016 has progressed, some literary agents and editors on Twitter have put out direct calls (or renewed previous calls) for diverse book submissions using hashtags such as #diversebooks and #ownvoices. I’ve corralled plenty of these calls below. If you’re writing a diverse book, check out the list below. Good luck querying!

Some important notes:

  1. This list is just what I was able to find with some quick work and Twitter searching. This is by no means an exhaustive or comprehensive list. Many, many agents seek diverse books and authors of color. Do your research and you’ll turn them up all over the place. (If you are an agent or editor and want to be added to this list, feel free to contact me at chuck.sambuchino [at] fwmedia.com, and send your submission guidelines link as well as a note about any upcoming query closures we should know about. At the same time, if you are on this list and want to removed, just contact me.)
  2. Keep in mind that agents frequently close to submissions some time in December and then reopen sometime in January. The exact dates are different for every agent. So keep in mind if you want to submit and they are closed to queries for the holidays, all you have to do is be patient and wait until the query break ends. Then you submit.
  3. In some instances below, you will find more than one agent from the same agency. Protocol is to only query one agent at an agency, so do not query multiple persons who work at the same place.
  4. If you want to know more about what constitutes a diverse book or what #OwnVoices is all about, my best advice is simply to Google them and read up. There is a lot of good info going around regarding these campaigns. It’s a big subject and I don’t pretend to be an expert, so I trust others to fill you in better than I could briefly do so here.
