Wednesday Poetry Prompts: 395

For today’s prompt, write a snap judgment poem. Some decisions (many decisions) are made without much thought; these are snap judgments. Sometimes these quick decisions lead to good outcomes; sometimes bad; but we all make them for big reasons and small.

Order the Current Poet’s Market!

The 2017 Poet’s Market, edited by Robert Lee Brewer, includes hundreds of poetry markets, including listings for poetry publications, publishers, contests, and more! With names, contact information, and submission tips, poets can find the right markets for their poetry and achieve more publication success than ever before.

In addition to the listings, there are articles on the craft, business, and promotion of poetry–so that poets can learn the ins and outs of writing poetry and seeking publication. Plus, it includes a one-year subscription to the poetry-related information on WritersMarket.com. All in all, it’s the best resource for poets looking to secure publication.

Here’s my attempt at a Snap Judgment Poem:

“In the News”

Every day, it seems, there’s a new reason
to paint a politician with treason,
whether the candidate is red or blue,
extremely experienced or brand new.

Every day, it seems, there’s a new answer
to identifying social cancers,
whether the new players are right or wrong,
dress down or sing inappropriate songs.

Every day, it seems, there’s a new outrage
tightening the screws and setting the stage
for people to yell and scream and debate,
so I’d much rather receive my news late.
