One of the things I really like about The Sun is the magazine’s focus on the personal. From the stories, articles, and poems it publishes to its black & white cover photos, The Sun Magazine is all about being personal (and usually first person).

The editors say, “We tend to favor personal writing, but we’re also looking for provocative pieces on political and cultural issues. And we’re open to just about anything. Surprise us; we often don’t know what we’ll like until we read it.”

Unlike many markets we’ve spotlighted so far, The Sun accepts submissions year round (meaning no limited time submission periods).

The Sun accepts submissions through the mail. They discourage simultaneous submissions and try to respond within 3-6 months. When poems are accepted for publication, the magazine pays $100-250 for poetry.

Poetry submissions should be typed and single-spaced, accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope (or SASE). Work cannot be returned without an envelope and sufficient postage.
